A simple combobox cell renders as a self-closing TD in Internet Explorer when it contains a single < (less-than sign).



This causes the simple combobox cell to appear as empty, missing a value, or broken. However, the user can still use the combo and the source value is retained and updated with each change.



Please advise how to overcome this issue.
