I just stumbled over this product, which seems to solve my problems with displaying a tree structure. So I just downloaded it and tried to see some samples. When opening e.g. 09_tree_design.html I get the following:

Javascript
Error type: LoadXML
Description: Incorrect XML

Javascript
Error type: Datastructure
Description: XML refers to not existing parent

I am using Safari on MacOSX 10.8
