DHTMLX Combo: Filtering Mode with JSON

Does JSON data work with “Enable Filtering Mode”? I am referring to the method below. I would like the URL given to this method to return JSON. I am developing using a licensed version and can provide a licence number if needed.

server filter should be fine both for xml and json.
