It looks like a designed thing, to make the side-content more readable for these cases.
If this behavior is not appropriate for your app, you can change styles to make side-content act as you need.
If you want some specific behavior, you can describe the requirements, and I will try to find a way to accomplish it.
Thank you for the clarification, I suspected it was intentional. 
Probably I can change this behavior by CSS, I was just curios if it’s considered a bug or not.
