How to change tabbar/ tab colors using the terrace skin?

I am having some issues changing the color or tabs when using the terrace skin. It seems like no matter what I do (setSkinColors, setCustomStyle, etc), the api will not change the background colors of the tabs. What api is needed to change the color of the tabs?
