I am about to use the schedule module to build a task manager and wonder is it better to use the joomla plugin or standalone PHP one ? what will be the pros and cons ?

Jomla module is more simple on initial stage as you need not to configure server side code and DB, also it have admin panel which may simplify configuration a bit. But it doesn’t provide access to all configuration possibilities of standalone version.
If you know at least a basic of php and js then usage of standalone version is recommended
