If I have a site built on Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP) and I sell services (user specific views that users pay for) and I want to use some dhtmlx components to beautify or enhance my site can I use the standard edition?
I assume that Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP fall under the GNU GPL but my PHP code is obviously not open to the public by nature. I couldn’t really reveal what’s in my PHP code because I have proprietary information such as MySQL connection passwords and strings.
Thank you
The Standard Edition of dhtmlx components is distributed under GNU GPL, which requires that you use the components only in open source, GPL-ed projects. According to the terms of GPL you have to distribute the sources of your application. If you do not want to open the source code of your application/project, you shouldn’t use GPL for it, and therefore you can not use the Standard edition under the terms of GPL. You can buy the Commercial license that will allow you to use dhtmlx components in a non-GPL project.
