What are some of the main reasons for using list instead of a single column dataview?
It looks like list items can a variable heights – which is great!

There is no much difference actually. The main one is the sizing behaviors, list can have different height for each item. Items of list always fill the whole width of lists container ( instead of fixed sizes in case of dataview )
