How to enforce new size for menu icons? Curently it’s displayed 18x18 forever.

You should edit the dhtmlxmenu_dhx_blue.css file.

Isn’t 18x18 an awkward default? Most icons are either 16 or 32, to my experiance at least…

We don’t think so. 18px size is common for all icons of dhtmlx components.
