Is there a way to have multi-level grouping with totals in every top level?

Is there an example?

No, it not impossible in current version of dhtmlxGrid

can’t that be done by using the treeGrid component? What do you think?

It not possible to use groupBy() and TreeGrid component. But you can group rows at the server side and use TreeGrid control to display rows in necessary order
