I have been evaluating the standard edition of dhtmlxTree and dhtmlxGrid and let me say I am very impressed with your products.
I am primarily using xml method for initialization and dynamically creating xml using classic asp. Everything seems to work fine.
since I am using the GPL standard edition, I am assuming some of the advanced features are not available, but I am quite clear what is missing. It would good to have a feature matrix. Anyways, I am primarily interested in the following features in dhtmlxTree
a) loading large hierarchical datasets
b) paging, sorting and searching, exporting data to excel
c) multirow headers (would like to see an example with xml config)
d) splitAt functionality ( I would like to see an example with XML config)
Do I need to purchase professional edition to get the above?

Standard version of dhtmlxtree supports dynamical loading, which can allow to use big datasets ( smartXMLParsing available only in pro edition )

Paging in grid is a pro functionality, all over available in standard edition
