Toolbar vs Menu

Hi,
I’m starting now to use these two controls. In fact, I’d like to use only one of these. I mean, what I need is a navigation control with these characteristics:

  • it should be fully hierarchical, that is, it should permit to show items on many levels (not only 2 as shown in the toolbar examples)
  • it should permit to use different kinds of items, like buttons, text boxes, drop down lists etc

In the past I’ve already faced this kind of choose related to other third party suites (Toolbar and Menus are quite common components to find in such suites) and eventually I’had always chosen the menu, because it was simpler to create custom templates for its items than add custom levels to a toolbar.

May I ask you if, in your opinion, this is true also for your suite? I mean, is it possible to customize single items in the menu to show other types of html elements, like text boxes and drop down lists?

Thank you in advance, Andrea Pirola

Hi,

it should be fully hierarchical, that is, it should permit to show items on many levels (not only 2 as shown in the toolbar examples)
it should permit to use different kinds of items, like buttons, text boxes, drop down lists etc

The former is supported only in menu and the latter - only in toolbar

is it possible to customize single items in the menu to show other types of html elements, like text boxes and drop down lists?

Unfortunately, it is impossible.

Hi,
just to close this thread, I’ve found an acceptable solution.
I’m using a Menu since the text property of its items accepts any html. In this way I can add all the html controls I need.
Obviously I hope there will be no side effects on existing functionalities…
